Live to Bird, Bird to Live
Asio Adventures specializes in private, semi-private, and group birding tours, consisting of half-day, full-day, or longer trips targeting your birding requirements and species needs. We are particularly fond of birding in the counties of Lennox & Addington, Prince Edward, and Frontenac; but are not limited to these counties. We can cater to individuals and groups from two to twelve people. Whether experienced or a beginning birder, we take the time to educate (see Cheat Sheet link above) and promote birding. Although we like to explore different locations, here are some of our favourites:
- Amherst Island – winter owling targeting Short-eared Owl and Northern Saw-whet Owl
- Prince Edward Point Bird Observatory – banding spring and fall migrants
- Cataraqui Bay – waterbirds
- Amherstview Sewage Lagoons – waterbirds and shorebirds
- Napanee Plain – Loggerhead Shrike and grassland birds
- Shefield Conservation Area – Prairie Warbler and forest species
- Opinicon Road – Cerulean Warbler, Yellow-throated Vireo, and other forest species
We are excited to provide you with an enjoyable birding adventure and, more broadly, to share our knowledge and stories.
Nick’s Biography
Nick, who has been birding since childhood, grew up in Central Ontario on the doorsteps of Algonquin Provincial Park. After completing a Bachelor of Environmental and Resource Studies at the University of Waterloo in Ontario with a thesis on Trumpeter Swans, Nick moved to Yuma, Arizona. There, he completed several projects including research on secretive marsh birds along the Colorado River and, on Burrowing Owls at Salton Sea in southern California. After working three spring/summer field seasons in the desert heat and two summer/fall seasons at southern Oregon bird banding stations, he moved to Victoria, British Columbia to assist in running the bird banding operations at the Rocky Point Bird Observatory. Having worked for non-profit and academic organizations as well as provincial and federal governments, Nick continued his education completing a Masters of Science in Biology at the University of Western Ontario. There he studied Least Bittern populations and habitat associations at Long Point, Ontario. After graduation, Nick and his wife moved to Calgary, Alberta where he started his professional career as a wildlife biologist for a large consulting firm. After nine years of living in Calgary, Nick and his wife and two children moved back to Bath, Ontario in the fall 2019. Besides enjoying being a husband, father, and avid bird watcher, Nick is also a Certified Trainer Level bird bander with the North American Banding Council and, annually, leads bird banding workshops in Belize.
